Session has approved a powerful new outreach effort to support Ukraine, now entering its fourth year of war. From January 11th to February 8th, we’re partnering with the Washington Ukrainian Humanitarian Center (www.uhcus.org) to send life-saving supplies directly to those in need.
In priority order, the Center is asking for new:
First aid items: over-the-counter medicine for children and adults (painkillers, cold/flu, antibiotic, allergy, vitamins - all in pill form, not liquid; generic is fine), large gauze bandages (+ items on Amazon wish list)
Hand and toe warmers
Emergency (foil) blankets (not fabric ones)
Small-medium plush toys
Tee-shirts, underwear, winter gear, and socks for adults
From Jan. 11 - Feb 8, you can:
Put supplies in the bin in Lower Commons
Order off the Center’s Amazon wish list (please bring items to the church so we can tally up our donations)
Make a financial donation directly to the Center
About the Center:
Their mission is to “deliver essential aid - including medical supplies, food, clothing, and shelter - directly to those in need.”
100% of donations go to direct aid, with none spent on salaries or overhead.
Located in northeastern Montgomery County, about 20 minutes south of our church.
Follow them on Facebook to see photos of their donations arriving in Ukraine, and to learn about other ways to engage such as their annual Festival! Watch their new video! https://tinyurl.com/UHCUSvideo (Photos are also on the Mission bulletin board.)
Special Event: Please join our Sunday School class on January 25th, led by the Center’s Programs Director Olena Poole, as she and other Ukrainians share first-hand accounts of life in Ukraine and the Center’s humanitarian work.
If you make a financial donation, would you please let Sara Watson know, so we can include that in tallying our church’s contribution. Finally, it would be great to have a small group work on this mission - if you’d like to join, please contact Sara Watson or the Church Office. Thank you!
