Rev. Ken Page

Interim Pastor, he/him

Ken is a native Marylander who has returned home after 33 years.  He has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Duke University and a Masters of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary.  He has served churches in New York, Pennsylvania and Arizona.  Ken’s passions in ministry are teaching, preaching and making crisis pastoral calls.  New to his portfolio is Interim Ministry and Ken is looking forward to helping First Presbyterian make a wonderful transition to a new pastor.  Ken believes that the church’s job is to open pathways to God changing lives and to become a little piece of the Kingdom of God.

Ken is married to Lori and they have three thriving young adult children.  Ken and Lori are excited to be near to family again. Ken’s hobbies are guitar, singing, travel and napping.  Ken is rarely serious unless he is in the pulpit.

Virginia Callegary

Director of Christian Education, she/her

Virginia enjoys working with children and adults of all ages to support the faith formation ministry of the church. She believes that faith formation happens throughout our lives in a variety of places and circumstances. Our role as the church is to walk alongside believers in their spiritual journey. She has a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Union Presbyterian Seminary and has been working at First Pres since 2010. When she isn’t working she enjoys spending time with family and friends, travelling (most likely to the beach), reading, and crafting.

Dr. Margaret McGillivray

Music Director, she/her

Dr. Margaret McGillivray is a horn-wielding, piano-tickling musical warrior with a commitment to the highest levels of collaborative music-making and learning. Based in Maryland, she is a busy soloist, orchestral musician, educator and passionate advocate for historically excluded musicians and composers. As a church musician, Margaret has served congregations in Ontario, Quebec, Germany, Arizona, Maryland and Washington, DC. While completing her ARCT in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music while still in high school, she would often substitute for her mother, an accomplished organist, singer and educator. Margaret believes that church music can be a life-changing, community-building, creative force that brings people and scripture together for praise, prayer, solace and action.

Caroline Smith

Church Administrator, she/her

Caroline Smith has worked at First Presbyterian Church of Howard County since August 2006. Caroline prepares the bulletins, the weekly insert First Day, powerpoint, and other printed materials for all worship services; publishes weekly newsletters via email for a different Ministry Area each week; supports the Pastor, Elders and Deacons; handles the church calendar and all building use, including outside user groups; and a multitude of other tasks.  Caroline is a member of the Administrative Personnel Association PCUSA (APA). She has attended conferences to earn credits to be a “Certified Church Administrator Level 2” and is working towards Level 3. Fellowship with other church administrators in the PCUSA has been valuable and enriching.  Caroline is an ordained Elder and Deacon and is involved in Presbyterian Women. Her hobbies include scrapbooking, sewing, and reading. She likes to travel and go to historic places and gardens. Caroline enjoys spending time with her husband, their children and their spouses, and with her friends.  Caroline loves her job! Years of volunteering in her church gave her a solid background for this position. She knows she is doing God’s work every day and to her it is more than a job, it is a ministry!

Woodrow A. Collins (Woody)

Church Sexton, he/him

Woody married Carol A. Werner in 1983, and together they welcomed the births of two children Bridget in 1986 and Blake in 1989.  Woody was self-employed at Collins Paint & Wallcovering and Central Maryland Decorating. He changed careers to Church Sexton at First Presbyterian Church of Howard County in 1999. The duties of the sexton have changed over the years. From maintenance, cleaning, and yardwork to more of a supervisory and hospitality position managing contractors and contracts.  He joined the church in 1985 and served as a Trustee and Construction Representative from 1990 until 1998 and is involved in the Youth program, PDA Mission trips, and trips to Guatemala throughout the years. Over a decade ago Session appointed him as the Charter Organizational Representative to the Boys and Girls Troop 361 and Family Pack 361. As an Eagle Scout himself, he enjoys Scouting by promoting projects on the church property. He also enjoys playing golf, eating at family gatherings, and attending sporting events. His greatest joy is spending his day off watching his granddaughter (Adriana).

Kathy Moore

Godly Play Coordinator, she/her

Miss Kathy is the storyteller for First Presbyterian's Godly Play program for children ages four through first grade. She enjoys helping the children explore sacred stories and worship. She is also the storyteller for Vacation Bible School.  Kathy is a retired office manager. She enjoys the fellowship of her friends in the Knitting Ministry and the Wednesday night Bible Study which has expanded her horizons with the supplemental books read to complement Scripture.

Marla Youkers

Nursery, she/her

Marla came to Maryland from Pennsylvania in 1988 with her husband Jim and daughters Angela & Bethany. While in Pennsylvania she taught Sunday School and sat on the board for the preschool at Plains Presbyterian church. She also worked in day care. She has been a member of First Pres since 1989 and has worked with the youth for more than 20 years and loves every minute. It has given her a chance to explore her faith and share it with them. Marla started working in the nursery in 2003 and enjoys the cuddles and laughs of our church’s littlest disciples. She currently works as a secretary for Powhatan Elementary School in Baltimore County in addition to the Nursery at First Pres.

Sarah Reinhardt

Nursery Assistant, she/her

Sarah has provided care  to the children in the church in and out of the nursery since 2014, and has been assisting with Vacation Bible School since 2009. She helps the children lead engaging and rewarding lives, encouraging them to learn and play in a safe environment. Sarah has a Master of Science in Special Education from Ball State University and has been a member of our church since 2007.

Session/Elders

The governing body at First Pres is the Session. The role of the Session is to govern, lead, and guide the congregation with spiritual discernment. The Session consists of the church’s pastors and 18 Elders elected by the congregation, serving staggered 3-year terms. Six Elders rotate off each year and 6 new Elders join the Session each year. One youth Elder is also elected each year, serving a one year term.

Deacons

The ministry of Deacons is one of compassion and service. At First Pres, the Board of Deacons consist of 15 members elected by the congregation, serving staggered 3-year terms. Five members rotate off the board each year and 5 new members come onto the board each year. One youth deacon also joins the board each year, serving a one year term.
