Who We Are
Welcoming all of the people of God—without exception
We understand why so many people have stopped going to church.
They’ve left for really good reasons. So it might sound trite for us to claim that we’re probably not what you’d expect of a church.
We Believe
being welcoming goes deeper than friendly faces and warm handshakes. To us, being a welcoming community means that we will love you and we will love those you love and see them as you do, without exception.
We Believe
every individual, regardless of race, gender, and sexual orientation, is a beloved child of God with unique gifts and a unique calling. Here, everyone is encouraged to learn, invited to lead, and sent out to be a force in the world.
We Believe
doubt is a normal part of faith, and we take all questions seriously. We actually listen, sometimes we disagree, and we are not just open but we are eager to learn new things.
We Believe
church should be about more than attendance and a list of rules to follow. You see, there is no perfect path of participation; here, there is no one way to be.
At First Pres
you will find people of diverse lifestyles, ethnicity, and perspectives. Together, we celebrate in life’s joys and extend comfort in times of fear or pain. Each week, we gather to take a breath, to find relief from the busy-ness, and to turn our attention to God with the hopeful expectation of greater understanding and peace.
This is a place where you don’t have to compete.
You don’t have to win. You can just be you. You can just bring you—no matter who you are, no matter where you are in your faith journey, and no matter your circumstances.
This might sound too good to be true. After all, the Church has not done a good job of being a very trustworthy institution.
But at First Pres, we take seriously our commitment to being different. And as First Pres, we take seriously our commitment to you.
