Godly Play is a worship and spiritual experience for children ages four through grade two. Children begin worship with their families then after the “Children’s Prayer” with the pastor, they go to the Godley Play room for a special worship experience just for them.
Godly play is led by a trained teacher, during the 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship services.
The Godly Play Morning
The Circle – The children are greeted at the door by the doorkeeper and helped inside to wait with the storyteller in the circle. Parents are encouraged not to enter the classroom as it is designed to be a sacred community just for children.
The Lesson – Sacred stories, parables, and liturgical actions are presented through hands on materials. Children can see, hear, and touch the stories. They are encouraged through wandering and questioning to discovery God’s presence in their lives.
The Response – Children then leave the circle to begin their chosen work. They can express themselves through art using the many and varied art supplies or through play using the story materials available.
The Feast – After cleaning up and putting away their work, the children gather for a snack. Like a communion service, a few children will serve the juice and cookies while everyone else waits quietly in the circle. After all are served, they say a blessing, and then eat.
Goodbye – Parents gather quietly at the door an as the children are ready, the doorkeeper will call each child’s name so they can say their goodbyes and leave.
